The history
The 'Casa de Santiago' is said to have originally been the residence of the friars of the Order of Santiago, who were in charge of the Main Church of Santiago Maior, which is adjacent to it.
In the 16th century, it belonged to the Feio family, being part of the assets established in a morgadio by Father Sebastião Feio, in the year 1570.
The house was greatly destroyed by the 1755 earthquake, and its ruins were leased in 1797 to Father Bonifácio Gomes de Carvalho, the prior of Santiago do Cacém. He eventually purchased the house in 1799, selling it in 1802 to D. Francisca Teresa de São José Nobre Pacheco, widow of João Falcão Murzello de Mendonça, who was the Captain Major of Santiago do Cacém.

The house was passed on to his daughter, Maria da Natividade Murzello Falcão, married to Captain Major Jacinto Paes de Matos, and later to their son, Jacinto Paes de Matos Falcão, 1st Count of Bracial, a major landowner and benefactor of Santiago do Cacém.
After his death, the house was inherited by his daughter, D. Catarina Champallimaud Paes de Matos Falcão (Soares de Albergaria), who, dying without children, bequeathed it to her cousin and goddaughter, D. Maria das Dores Cabral Parreira, married to cavalry captain António Lobo de Vasconcellos, son of General José Lobo de Vasconcellos, an officer serving under Their Majesties King D. Carlos and King D. Manuel II, grandparents of the current owner.
